Out and about....

Another cooker of a day in Budapest!

Today we meandered down to the Grand Market Hall which is a historical market place renovated in 1991 and houses all variety of merchant stalls from fresh produce and meat to baking, cheeses, and the typical touristy kistch you would expect.  This would be a terrific place to get your food if you lived here with most of the product being sourced from the local region. after this we started our way across the network of sideroads with the plan of seeing the amazing parliament complex; except....  they decided this was the summer to completely renovate every inch of the grounds around the buildings with the result that you can't get near them or to any vantage point to see them properly.  Screening, fencing, construction equipment and mountains of earth festoon the area so after a struggle getting around to see something, we gave up and wandered up to one of the local book emporiums.

Deciding we were too hot and tired to walk back we hopped on the tram to get back to the hotel for a rest.  Out again for dinner at a local street market where we sampled a selection of barbequed meats and tried Langos for dessert.  Then back to the hotel by way of a couple of local grocery markets to pick up supplies and view the selection of Hungarian groceries, which can be quite inexpensive by comparison to similar products from home (ie: 2L of ice tea is approx 60 cents, 2L bottles of water approx 20 cents, black bing cherries $1/Kilo, 500ml beer 80 cents....  A couple of observations today; there does not seem to be a problem with public intoxication despite the fact that beer and wine is consumed openly just about everywhere and all variety of very inexpensive alcohol is available for sale in every store. the other observation is that no one seems consumed with their smartphone; you just don't see the locals heads down texting madly like you see at home.
