Today we set off to visit the castle complex on the hill and to explore
the rest of the old town nearby. We checked the map and embarked on the
"castle hill grind" (sorry, only the west coasties will get that
reference) by way of the clearly marked path only to discover the last
50 metres are a plank-step boardwalk (grrr) so we made our way back down
the hill. Going up is OK in a W/C, coming down is a bit slippy and
bumpy. At the bottom we made our way to the funicular and rode up
to the top and wandered about
checking the various sections of the castle. A fellow was doing
calligraphy inside the chapel so we had a couple of cards made. Later
we headed down and followed the various roadways around the old town. We
stopped for a late light lunch only to discover that the lightest of
the lunches was enough for a hearty dinner so feeling somewhat stuffed we
made a plan to rest and digest and then head out later for a decadent
dessert of sorts. Our entertainment for the evening while enjoying our
sweat treats was an extended Hare Krishna celebration in the main
square! Off to Vienna and then Barcelona tomorrow....
