Today we ventured out to a region of very old limestone hills to the village of Les Baux-de-Provence. The area has an extensive history with limestone on the site being quarried as early as 60 BCE. We first popped into a multimedia experience installed in an old limestone mine/quarry where images and moving pictures set to music are projected on to the walls and floors. This extends over multiple massive rooms and is a fantastic display which must be experienced if you are in the area. After, we proceeded to the old village carved into the hillside with the remains of an older castle complex above. The town also has demonstrations of catapults in action, hands on crossbow, and medieval "fights". The view from the summit is fantastic overlooking groves of olives, grapes and other agriculture. We headed back later in the day to Avignon to another wonderful Provencal dinner prepared by Sandrine and Laurence (Sandrine's sister from Lyon) of frois gras, salad, stuffed cuttlefish, cheese, and apricot mousse cake with various wine and coffee. Marvelous!
